TAKE ME BACK: A THEATRICAL JOURNEY OF UNSETTLING MEMORIES
TAKE ME BACK is a theatrical heart-felt musical journey that pays tribute to the
Civil Rights Movement. This production awakens the memories of those who suffered, bled, and died for the rights of humanity. Special tribute is paid to Medgar Evers, Emmett Till, Goodman, Schwerner, and Chaney. A cast of dynamic singers, and actors will take you on a journey that will not only make you understand the significance of the Civil Rights Era, but will also allow you to see the role each of us plays today in the settling of the memories of those who stepped back so that we might step forward.

FROM AFRICA TO AMERICA is a play that talks about the journey African American people had to take to rise from their homeland to America. It is a play that is filled with emotions that make you proud to be an African American. It also makes you stand up and realize how important it is for each of us to take part in making sure this generation and generations to come are instilled with the pride of a culture rich in history and heritage. 


SHADES OF BLACKNESS
Shades of Blackness: A Cultural Reflection of African American diversity. The goal of this show is the show the journey we have travelled as a culture of people. A journey deeply rooted in the American dream that we as a people can be anything we want to be. In order for us to truly understand who and where we are today, we must reflect on how far we have come.

EXCELLENCE WITHOUT EXCUSE
A dramatic wake-up educational call. This show highlights the importance of education for our young people. It focuses on the obstacles that are affecting the success of our generation. It identifies and attacks the barriers standing in the way of education. From peer pressure to lack of parental support, we try to expose the lies that keep telling our young people ‘they can’t’. Our goal is to create in them a spirit of “I can”. Through exciting poetry, monologue, song, and dance, the journey inspires anyone who desires to succeed 

HOW I GOT OVER
A theatrical tribute of music, drama, and dance that honors African-American women of the Civil Rights Movement. Rosa Parks, Fannie Lou Hamer, Coretta Scott-King, Mamie Till, Four Little Girls of Birmingham, and other strong women of the movement are honored in this tributary journey. 


NEW BEGINNINGS
“There are more black men in prison than there are in college...”
“If Black men can’t do anything else, they can play some basketball...”
“Black men are scared of responsibility and all they do is make babies and disappear...”

Do you get tired of hearing the negative stereotypes of Black males? Well, WE DO. That is why we developed New Beginnings. 

New Beginnings is a showcase production that pays tribute to the African American male. It identifies and attacks the stereotypes of the African American male. The show features an all-star cast of young male college students who will undoubtedly leave you spellbound with their abilities to portray these stereotypes. The ultimate goal of the show is to destroy those negative images by presenting more positive ones.

AFRICAN AMERICAN SALUTE TO BROADWAY
This production is a high energy production of acting, singing, and dancing from some of the most popular Broadway productions featuring African Americans. Audiences get to see live scenes from shows such as DreamGirls, The Wiz, Jelly’s Last Jam, Mama, I Want to Sing, and many others. This show will make you feel like you are experiencing the glitz and glamour of New York City.

SISTERS
A very powerful production with music that gives voice to the pain, struggle, and the survival of women in our society. The play addresses issues such as teen pregnancy, drug abuse, cancer, sexual abuse, and many other obstacles women face and survive. SISTERS is not only a tribute to the women in our lives, but it is a celebration of who we are because they are in our lives.

FROM EARTH TO GLORY 
A dynamic spirit filled performance that takes a journey through our rich history to tell the story of the great creation of mankind. Through this performance, our goal is to both educate and entertain our audience through a dramatic re-enactment of a revised version of James Weldon Johnson’s “The Creation”. This theatrical production of drama, singing, and dancing takes an educational approach to artistically lay the foundation of whom we are and who we will become. It was once seen as unlawful to speak of the name of Jesus on government ground, yet, this stellar showcase raises the question, “How can teachers speak about the gift of life without speaking about The Giver of Life. “With many of MADDRAMA’s most talented group of performers, our mission is to celebrate the story of our beginning by moving from Earth to Glory! 

ON THE WINGS OF LOVE
On The Wings of Love is an exciting showcase filled with drama, dance, and song that takes a journey through the different stages of love. From the early stages of puppy love, through high school love, all the way to the ultimate point of love; the love for God and one’s self. The message behind this stellar performance is Love: You can’t give it away if you don’t have any for yourself. Our goal is to encourage our youth to always have self respect and love for themselves. This performance deals with the phases of love in order to display the right and wrong ways to love and the right and wrong people to love. Through true artistry, this show captures our audiences with verbal and melodic expressions in order to ring clear the message that the only way to fly is “On the Wings of Love".

Using theatre games and language exercises, young actors begin to explore the concept of ensemble work and scene presentation. Scripts are introduced at this level, along with continued development of imagination through movement and improvisation. Clarity of speech and vocal projection are emphasized, and students learn important audition preparation techniques.

An introduction to acting basics is explored: objective vs. obstacle, speech and vocal projection, and creating a character. Additionally, Teen Acting focuses on sections of an entire full-length play, with the objective of developing analytical and interpretative skills.

This class helps actors of all ages and experiences create (or polish/update) an arsenal of tools that every actor should have:

Knowing the secrets to memorizing lines 

One comedic and one dramatic monologue in his/her repertoire, suitable to his/her age and acting "type," on-hand to perform at an audition, talent agent interview, etc.

Actor headshots that accurately represent your age, look, and type

An industry-standard resume that showcases your credits, training, and skills 

Interview/Communication skills so you have a poised, mature, and professional presence

The proper way to prepare for an audition, rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and a performance. This class will teach you how to arrive at the theatre with the proper attire and tools so you can be comfortable and successful in any given situation.
